Frequently Asked Questions
what are eyelash extensions?
Lash extensions are synthetic fibers that are applied to each of your natural lashes using medical grade adhesive. Lash extensions come in a variety of lengths and widths ranging from 8mm-18mm. With proper application, lash extensions make your eyes appear wider and more lifted without any added weight on your eyes.
are lash extensions safe?
Yes, lash extensions are completely safe. We are highly trained to apply lash extensions so that they will not damage your natural lashes, but will actually grow with them during your lash cycle. Our adhesive is waterproof and does not come in contact with your skin. It is also latex and formaldehyde free.
am i a good candidate for lash extensions?
You are a good candidate if you:
Have strong and long natural lashes; your lashes are in optimal health
You do not have any sensitivities or allergies
However, not everyone is a good candidate. Lash extensions may not be right for you if:
You have extremely short or thin lashes. Your natural lashes may not be strong enough to support lash extensions
You have sparse lashes. In order to get lash extensions, you must have natural lashes for the extension to adhere to
Allergies or sensitivities to adhesives
how long will my lash extensions last?
Your extensions will last through the growth of your natural lash growth cycle, which is typically every six to eight weeks. Everyone’s lashes grow at different rates so some may have better retention than others.
how often do I need fills?
Fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks. Everyone’s lash growth cycle is different so not everyone can go 3 weeks without a fill, even if they still look “full”. Keep in mind that during your fill appointment, your lash artist will remove the outgrown lashes and replace them with new lashes. If you have less than 40% of lashes remaining, it will be considered a full set, even if the appointment is booked within 3 weeks. If you plan to have lash extensions consistently, we recommend consulting with your lash artist to create a fill scheduled based on your personal lash growth cycle.
what happens if I get an allergic reaction?
In rare instances, you may develop an allergic reaction to the lash extensions or lash adhesive. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include stingy, swollen, or watery eyes, swollen or itchy eyelids, runny/blocked nose, sore throat, headaches. If you experience any of these symptoms, please book an appointment to get the lash extensions removed, free of charge. If symptoms persist for over a few days and do not respond to treatment (e.g. allergy medications, cold compress, etc.), please see a medical specialist. It is not uncommon for someone to suddenly become allergic to lash glue even if they weren’t before. However, if symptoms disappear within 24 hours, you may have lash glue sensitivity and you do not need to remove them or seek treatment.
how long will the process take?
The lash application process can take up to 1-1.5 hours depending on the lash style you choose and how many natural lashes you have. We specialize in the “express” lash extension method, using methods and products that speed up the lashing process without compromising the quality or retention.
can i apply mascara to my extensions?
Lash extensions are designed to look as if you already have mascara on, so no mascara will be needed and is not recommended.
how do i take care of my lash extensions?
Avoid submerging lashes in water for the first 24 hours after application.
Do not use oil-based products on or around your eyes, as that may weaken the adhesive and cause lashes to fall out sooner. (i.e. waterproof eyeliner, facial oils, oil-based moisturizers, etc.).
After the initial 24 hour dry period, wash your lashes daily with a gentle oil-free cleanser, water, or a lash cleanser.
Brush your lashes daily when they are dry. It is important to brush them after they are fully dry so they remain fluffy.
Do not pull on your lashes or rub your eyes, this may cause irritation and/or premature fallout.
okay, i’m ready to make my appointment. what do i need to do to prepare?
Come to your appointment with clean lashes and no makeup. Please avoid sunscreens and oil-based moisturizers/creams on your face since we will be using tape on your eyes and forehead.
If you wear contacts, it is recommended to switch to glasses during your appointment since you will have your eyes closed for an extended amount of time.
Avoid caffeine on the day of your appointment, this may cause your eyes to flutter and/or twitch when they are closed.
If possible, shower before your appointment because you will not be able to get your lashes wet for the first 24 hours.
